Cock And Ball Torture: Sadochismo

For those of you who don’t know about CaBT, I can reveal that we are talking about German gore comedians (“oh yes,” you think “more of those…”). What the fuck, I wouldn’t come up with a catchy beginning to this review if my life depended on it. Whatever, despite the lameness of the first sentence it’s actually more or less true, just poorly formulated. Bear with me here…
Seriously, titles such as “Kamikaze Incest”, “Enema Bulldozer” and “Cellulite Convoy” ought to say it all. It’s safe to say that CaBT is nothing more than a success in the songtitle department. But what about the actual music then?
It’s not the failure of epic proportions I was expecting at first, as CaBT manages to lay down some serious groove sometimes, but it’s not remote to being anything special or memorable either. Save perhaps for the vocals, these are hard to review, as they sound real badass sometimes, but sometimes they are incredibly annoying. I guess that initially they are kind of a novelty, something funny, like things you’ll show your less-metal friends so they’ll go “man, you listen to some crazy shit”. After a while however, they are just tiresome and, as mentioned, annoying. Pretty much like this entire album.
The songwriting is pretty decent actually, however sometimes it’s a little boring, and by “a little” I mean “very fucking”. I mean, I thought I had listened through the entire album, and that it was playing all over again thanks to “repeat”, but when I checked I was on like track eight. A little variation would be in place here.
In terms of production all is well, CaBT’s sound is undeniably heavy, and it fits the songs extremely well. The drums pack a good punch, the guitars have a nice edge to them and the bass is even audible. Also everything is nicely balanced, no element dominates over the others.
In conclusion, “Sadochismo” is an album that is by no means bad, but these krauts wont see my money anytime soon. Perhaps if about 666 bands would suddenly stop releasing records, then these guys might qualify (meaning: they are just another band that just doesn’t make my cock point towards the pearly gates).
